remember your inner brilliance
November 4 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm PST
Welcome to the very first meeting of our new Spiritual Book Club! Each month, we’ll gather on the first Tuesday to share insights, reflections, and inspiration from books that deepen our spiritual journey.
We’ll begin with Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind: Informal Talks on Zen Meditation and Practice by Shunryu Suzuki—a timeless classic that invites us to approach life with openness, humility, and presence. This book was lovingly recommended by a dear friend, and I’ll be reading it on flights and in airports on my way to Mexico, which feels like the perfect reminder that every moment is an opportunity to return to beginner’s mind.
Named one of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the Twentieth Century (Spirituality & Practice)
"In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few."
So begins this most beloved of all American Zen books. Seldom has such a small handful of words provided a teaching as rich as has this famous opening line. In a single stroke, the simple sentence cuts through the pervasive tendency students have of getting so close to Zen as to completely miss what it's all about. It is an instant teaching on the first page--and that's just the beginning.
Bring your reflections, questions, and favorite passages to share. Let’s learn and grow together through the wisdom of words.
