There are moments in life when you are asked to slow down, not because you want to, but because your body makes the decision for you.
I am in one of those moments.
After a long period of increasing pain and limited mobility, I am preparing for hip replacement surgery that’s taking place on April 27. It’s the right decision, and I’m so ready for it. I am looking forward to moving freely again, to walking, hiking, and exploring without pain, and to returning to a life that feels like my own.
Over the past six months, I was living in Mexico, in what I now recognize as a meaningful chapter of healing and reflection. What many of you may not know is that I have recently returned to Southern Oregon to move forward with this surgery and receive care from the orthopedic team in Medford, who have been treating me over the past few years. There is something deeply grounding about being in the hands of doctors I trust, people who know my history and are guiding me through this next step.
I have also settled into a beautiful apartment in the heart of Ashland, a space that already feels like a true healing sanctuary. It’s quiet, it’s steady, and it supports exactly what I need right now, which is rest and recovery. I feel deeply grateful to be here.
At the same time, this next chapter requires me to step away from my work for a period of time.
As an intuitive coach, spiritual teacher, and wedding officiant, my work is personal and one-on-one. My income is directly tied to my ability to show up and serve. When I am not working, there is no built-in safety net. No paid leave, no disability coverage. It’s simply the reality of being self-employed. It’s just me!
I have done what I can to prepare, but this recovery period will create a temporary gap that I cannot fully cover on my own.
So, I’m doing something I do not often do. I am asking for support.
I’ve created a fundraiser to help cover basic living expenses during my recovery, rent, utilities, groceries, and the everyday costs of life while I take the time to heal properly.
If you have ever received something meaningful from my work, a moment of clarity, a shift in perspective, a sense of being seen or supported, and you feel called to give back in this moment, I would be deeply grateful.
And if not, your presence here, your kind thoughts, your healing vibes, and your continued connection mean just as much.
This is a temporary chapter. I’ll be back, and I look forward to returning to my work with renewed energy, strength, and clarity. I’m also looking forward to hiking and adventuring again! There’s so much to see and experience on this beautiful planet.
If you would like to support, you can do so here:
Thank you for being part of my journey! I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
Be well, take good care of your joints, and I’ll see you soon!
With gratitude,
Charlene
